Antwerp to Huy, Belgium (157km)
Monday, July 6 | 7:40 a.m. EST – 11:30 a.m. EST
There were 166km on stage 2, and another 157km for stage 3: ASO is now fully utilizing the new format for Tour stages that director Christian Prudhomme has been advocating for several years. His goal? To stir things up. After passing through Meensel-Kiezegem, the birthplace of Eddy Merckx, who celebrated his 70th birthday on June 17, the stage, which stays entirely within Belgium, will finish with the climb of the legendary Mur de Huy. And there is also the Côte de Chérave, which has been included in the final five kilometers to give the best riders a chance to get in position before the Huy. Look for the puncheurs — Dan Martin (Cannondale-Garmin) or Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), to name a couple — to take advantage of the opportunity to take the yellow jersey; there are time bonuses available at the finish.
