Pau to Cauteretes-Vallée de Saint-Savin (188km)
Wednesday, July 15 | 6:05 a.m. EST – 11:40 a.m. EST
Stage 11 offers a second Pyrenean route that follows closely with tradition: first, the riders will tackle the Col d’Aspin and the Col du Tourmalet, before the final climb to Cauterets, where the Tour has not been since 1995. Will this be a stage for a sort-out among the main contenders? They have already had plenty of opportunities; they still have plenty more. Crafting this stage, organizers were thinking it suited a baroudeur in the style of Voeckler in his best years. Or, it could be fit for a team leader who has lost time and is hoping to attempt a rescue mission of their overall chances. In other words, this is a much more open stage than its rugged profile suggests.
