Some riders switched from a true TT bike, to a road bike when the course headed up the category 1 climb. Maxime Monfort (Lotto-Belisol) simply used his road bike with clip-on aero bars to avoid making a bike change mid-race. Monfort finished 27th in the time trial, losing 5:53 to Nairo Quintana.
