Martin Bina wins Czech national ‘cross crown

The victory marks Bina's first elite 'cross crown after five silver medals

Martin Bina (Kwadro-Stannah) dominated the 2014 Czech national cyclocross championships on Saturday in Lostice.

Michael Boros (CEZ Cyklo Team Tábor) finished second at 43 seconds with Vladimir Kyzivat (Johnson Controls) third at a further three seconds down.

It was Bina’s first victory following five second-place finishes, and he was delighted.

“Finally,” he said. “After five tries it was time.”

To wear the national champion’s jersey “is prestigious for both me and the team,” he added. “It’s one of my greatest career results.”

Bina said he wasn’t feeling on top of his game during the race — “My legs hurt like a bitch,” he said — but he focused on the difficult sections of the course and that made the difference.

Now, he said, he’ll spend a few days training in Mallorca before getting back to business for the final World Cup January 26 in Nommay, France.
