Marlon Perez, a rider on the UCI Pro Continental team Colombia-Comcel, has been provisionally suspended after he tested positive for a banned substance on two occasions during the Vuelta a Costa Rica last December.

Urine samples taken from him on December 19 and 26 showed a presence of metabolite GW1516 sulfone – Metabolic Modulator and sibutramine. Two labs, one in Montreal and another in Köln, Germany, verified the test result.

Perez is provisionally suspended until the Colombian Cycling Federation holds a hearing regarding the matter.

Perez, the 2001 Colombian time trial champion, has been a professional since 2003. He won the road race at the 2011 Pan American Games.
