ASO announces wildcards for Paris-Nice, Dauphine
PARIS (AFP) — Tour de France organizer ASO on Wednesday announced the four wildcard teams to contest March’s Paris-Nice and June’s Critérium du Dauphiné.
Three French teams and a new Swiss outfit earned wildcard invitations to Paris-Nice. Cofidis, Sojasun, and Europcar, along with IAM Cycling, will take the start at the “Race to the Sun” on March 3.
Twenty-two teams will contest the eight-day Paris-Nice. The 18 ProTeams are automatic invites for the WorldTour event.
ASO also announced the invitation of four teams — Cofidis, Europcar, Brittany Dried, and NetApp-Endura — for the Criterium du Dauphiné, scheduled for June 2-9. The Critérium du Dauphiné field is often an indicator of the teams to be seen at the Tour de France just four weeks later, though ASO has yet to confirm wildcards for the Tour.
Cofidis, Sojasun, Europcar, IAM, Brittany Dried, and Netapp, all classified in the second division, joined the Movement for Credible Cycling (MPCC), which requires its teams to uphold strict anti-doping policies that go beyond the World Anti-Doping Code.
ASO will unveil the route for Paris-Nice, which starts in Coal (Yvelines), on February 2 in Versailles, France.
