Deidre York was the highest-placing North American in 19th place
Swiss rider Jolanda Neff became the new U23 women’s world champion Friday in Saalfelden, Austria.
Ukrainian Yana Belomoyna took the silver medal and Paula Gorycka of Poland took bronze.
Great Britain’s Annie Last started strong, but crashed three times on the first wet, slippery descent and Neff overtook her. The 2011 U23 world championship silver medalist held onto Neff the next lap but couldn’t hold on in the slick conditions and finished fourth.
Belomoyna, Gorycka and fifth-place finisher Monika Zur battled it out for third until Zur flatted.
Deidre York was the highest-placing North American in 19th place.
