HORSENS, Denmark (AFP) — The race jury at the Giro d’Italia has relegated Italian Roberto Ferrari (Androni Giaccotoli-Venezuela) to the last position on the results sheet for stage 3. Ferrari caused the massive crash that occurred late in the third stage on Monday.

Ferrari, who had crossed the line in 10th position is listed in the stage results in 192nd place.

Race leader, Taylor Phinney, a victim of the crash, was initially the last finisher for the stage, but given the same time as the winner Matt Goss (Orica-GreenEdge).

UCI regulations stipulate that riders involved in a crash in the last three kilometers of a stage, except on mountaintop finishes, should be given the same time as the group he belonged at the time of the incident.
