Geox signs De la Fuente, Cheula
Geox-TMC continues to bolster its lineup going into next season and has signed Spaniard David de la Fuente (Astana) and Italian Giampaolo Cheula (Footon-Servetto).
De la Fuente, 29, is one of the best Spanish climbers and will begin his eighth season as pro rider in 2011, after notching some prestigious wins in the likes of the stage victory taken in the 2008 Deutschland-Tour and the 2009 GP Miguel Indurain, as well as the 2007 GP Llodio and the Super Combativity award received atop the podium of the Champs Elysées in Paris in the 2006 Tour de France.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for De la Fuente, who raced with Saunier Duval before joining Astana in 2010 and riding in support of Alberto Contador in the Tour de France.
Cheula, 31, will bring his experience to the team after 10 years into top teams, such as Mapei, Vini Caldirola and Barloworld, where he consolidated as a top-class domestique.
The two signings join those riders already confirmed, including Denis Menchov (Rus), Carlos Sastre (Sp), Daniele Colli (I), David Blanco (Sp), Mauricio Ardila (Col) and Dmitriy Kozontchuk (Rus).
