FASSO BORTOLO
ALL FOR PETACCHI? No doubt, superstar sprinter Alessandro
Petacchi is Fassa’s best bet for winning stages — he won four of the five road
stages he finished at the 2003 Tour — but he’s bound to have increased
opposition this year from Cipollini, McEwen and Cooke. Luckily the Italian team
also has a host of others capable of winning a stage, notably Fabian Cancellara,
Juan Flecha, Kim Kirchen and Frank Vandenbroucke, while GC prospects Dario
Frigo and Aitor Gonzalez could surprise the main contenders if they can regain
the form that has put them on the podium at the other grand tours.
