Friday's Mailbag: Enough about a comeback already

Forget about LA, there’s a race going on
Editor:
Why are we talking about Lance? Isn't there another grand tour going on right now, with some spectacular racing taking place? What about Heras and his gutsy racing, truly taking risks to take the lead? Not to be outdone, Menchov has fought hard and is not giving up. Oh, and there's another thing. A young American in 10th place overall.

With all due respect to Lance, who cares if he comes back until he actually comes back? I would rather focus on the great racing going on than banter back and forth about, "What if?" and how he could really piss off the French. I would bet the French would be even more pissed off if another American won the Tour next year - how about that?

Yeah, what he said
Editor:
I don't know about you but I wish everyone would just shut up about the comeback. If it happens, then great, we can all enjoy another year of great TV coverage of the Tour. Until then I'm going to sit back and enjoy some great VeloNews.com live coverage of the Vuelta. Anybody else been paying attention to that? There just happens to be another American doing pretty well in his first full grand tour.

Can we please change the subject?
Editor:
I just wish that everybody would shut their mouths and let the man make up his own mind. I love racing and I love to watch racing but I’m getting tired of reading everybody else’s opinion on the matter.

I wouldn’t mind reading more of O’Grady’s writings and other diaries of racers along with a variety of stories that cover the sport. There’s so much more out there that is interesting and fun to read, but I feel like I’m listening to my city’s popular radio station that plays the same single over and over until the song has been played out and beaten into the ground.

More O’Grady? Man, you are desperate for a different tune. – Editor

Sad truth: For most, cycling’s a one-man sport
Editor:
I get the impression from all the letters on Lance, that if he truly left the stage, people wouldn't even bother to check the headlines any more. Sadly, to the majority of Americans, it really is a one-man sport.

Other tours deserve TV time
Editor:
As much as I love the Tour de France, and I do love it, it is pathetic that there is no real-time television coverage of the Vuelta or Giro. You would think people would be much more likely to watch and appreciate these races than "Survivor" re-treads on OLN. ESPN2 could even show replays late at night. Any thoughts? Maybe a grassroots campaign?
