O'Grady hospitalized after collapse
Former Paris-Roubaix champion Stuart O’Grady was taken to a Spanish hospital this weekend after he collapsed following a lap on the Valencia MotoGP race course on the back of a motorcycle piloted by 2007 MotoGP champion Casey Stoner.
According to information from Cycling South Australia, O’Grady collapsed moments after dismounting the motorcycle while being introduced to VIPs.
“Casey Stoner started to interview Stuart and introducing him to these people,” said Max Stephens, executive director of Cycling SA. “It was a corporate event held in the morning of the race. Stuart couldn’t answer the questions and then collapsed.”
Luckily, a medical team was standing by and they quickly attended to him. O’Grady was transported to a local hospital for observation overnight.
“He woke up in the hospital and they’re going to do a series of tests,” Stephens said. “We’ll know more in the next couple of days.”
