P.S. Could you please ask John Wilcockson if he would possibly be interested in tutoring me? I'd be honored to follow in hisjournalistic footsteps.
We’d love to ask our editorial director to help you out, Michael, but he’s got his hands full trying to teach us a thing or two. — Editor
It’s ‘Ukraine,’ not ‘the Ukraine’
Editor:
Thanks as always for your excellent coverage of the Ford Tour of Georgia. However, I must point out one small error in Jason Sumner's coverage of Stage 2. Popovych is not from "the Ukraine," but is in fact from "Ukraine." Putting "the" in front implies Ukraine is simply a subservient region of another country, namely Russia. Of course, it was a region of Russia for decades, if not centuries, but the union was always subservient and never happy. Even today, though in theory it has formal independence from Russia, Ukraine still struggles for complete independence in practice. This may not matter to most readers here – it may not even matter to Popovych – but it matters to the Ukrainians I know.
I know this has nothing to do with cycling, but since I think we can be certain that Popovych's name will be on these pages for years to come, I thought it worth mentioning.
