Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen (Columbia-HTC) has climbed to third on the UCI World Ranking thanks to his overall win of the Eneco Tour stage race last month.

In the rankings as of Aug. 31, Boasson Hagen trails another relative youngster, Andy Schleck, who is in second behind Albert Contador.

Contador owes his lead to strong performances in Paris-Nice, the Vuelta al Pais Vasco, the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré and of course the Tour de France, where he scored 264 points.

Surprisingly, Contador is the oldest rider in the top five of the UCI World Ranking at just 26. Schleck is 24, Boasson Hagen is 22, fourth placed Mark Cavendish is 24 and fifth placed Roman Kreuziger (Liquigas) is just 23.

Contador's Astana team and Spain continue to lead the ranking's team and nation categories.
