Women's Prestige Cycling series resumes at Nature Valley Grand Prix
The 2009 Women’s Prestige Cycling Series resumes next week at the Nature Valley Grand Prix stage race held in Minnesota, June 10 – 14. Following the season opener at Redlands and the Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas, Webcor moved into the lead in the Best Young Rider and Team classification, while Team Type 1 stretched its lead in the Individual standings.
Several teams and riders leading in the Women’s Prestige Cycling Series points race will be riding in the Nature Valley Grand Prix, including Kori Seehafer riding with Team Type 1, Tina Pic with Colavita Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light, Alison Powers of Team Type 1, and Lauren Tamayo and Joanne Kiesanowski both with Team TIBCO.
“We’re excited to have the point leaders joining us in Minnesota for the 2009 Nature Valley Grand Prix,” said David LaPorte, race director. “Our stage race has become the top-ranked women’s pro race in the United States and we are proud of placing emphasis on women’s pro bike racing throughout our 11-year history.”
Current Women’s Prestige Cycling Series leaders in various classifications are as follows:
Individual Classification – Alison Powers (Team Type 1) and Katheryn Mattis (Webcor Builders) finished first and second at the Joe Martin Stage Race, stretching Powers’ lead over Mattis for the Series.

Best Young Rider – Heading into the Nature Valley Grand Prix, Rebecca Much (Webcor Builders) owns first place in the Best Young Rider competition. Webcor also possesses the top two spots, with Much in first and teammate Alexis Rhodes in second.

Sprint Competition – With no sprint competition at the Joe Martin Stage Race, there was no change in the Series Sprint standings. Kori Seehafer (Team Type 1) remains in the lead, but will face tough competition from sprinting powerhouse Tina Pic (Colavita), in the remaining races.

Team Competition – Since the team competition offers bonuses for young riders, youth is proving to be an asset for the Webcor Builders team, which now owns a 136-point lead over second place Team TIBCO.

Following the Nature Valley Grand Prix (June 10 – 14), the WPCS will conclude at the Cascade Classic (July 22 – 26) in Bend, Ore.

The Women’s Prestige Cycling Series began in 2004 with the goal of highlighting women’s racing by giving them a spotlight that they don’t have to share with the men. The Series grew out of meetings that began in Minnesota in 2003 at the first Women’s Cycling Summit Conference hosted at the Nature Valley Grand Prix.
