Schleck cleared for Liège
Frank Schleck, the victim of a nasty crash in the Amstel Gold Race, has been cleared to start Sunday’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Saxo Bank announced Thursday that the Luxembourg national champion will line up for Liège alongside his younger brother, Andy Schleck. The pair finished third and fourth last year, respectively.
Schleck was a victim of a crash late in Amstel Gold Race on Sunday, prompting him to renounce Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, where Andy Schleck finished second to Davide Rebellin (Diquigiovanni).
The elder Schleck suffered a minor concussion, but no other serious injuries when he went down hard with Matthew Lloyd (Silence-Lotto) as the peloton was cranking up the chase. Both riders were transported to a local hospital.
The Schleck brothers will line up Sunday as part of a strong Saxo Bank team. Joining them will be Danes Jakob Fuglang, Chris-Anker Sorensen and Nicki Sorensen, Amstel Gold runner-up Karsten Kroon, Russian Alexandre Kolobnev and Swede Gustav-Erik Larsson.
