PRESS RELEASE: Geargrinder's Brian Matter tunes up for world cyclocross championship
Sheboygan, WI - Brian Matter of Southeastern Wisconsin's Team GEARGRINDER,
a member of the U.S. Men's World Cyclocross Team, will compete this Sunday,
February 1st, at the Cyclocross World Championships in Hoogerheide, The
Netherlands. Matter has spent the past week in Assenede, Belgium, for
pre-Worlds training, and competed in nine days of racing at Euro Cross
Camp VI in Belgium this past December.
"To reach this accomplishment after 13 years of racing…I think that's
pretty cool," said Matter. "The support I've been receiving from everyone
just blows me away, and I'm competing on the same day as the Steelers!"
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Pinckney, Michigan, Matter
resides in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, with his wife, Andrea; however, Matter
has been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since before he could reach the pedals
on his training bike.
"It's amazing how this quiet little town has really come to life...I'm
loving every minute of it," said Matter. "So surreal...I'm competing in
the Worlds in the Netherlands, and then on the same day, I get to watch my
Steelers just crank it...crazy!"
To celebrate Matter's Cyclocross World Championship appearance, Matter
sponsor, GEARGRINDER Cycling Inspired Apparel, has created a
limited-edition "Does Matter" graphic tee, of which all proceeds will go
directly to Matter to assist in covering his season's training, travel and
lodging costs. The tee's artwork, designed by fellow cyclocross rider Tom
Bender, reflects the colors of the UCI Cyclocross World Championship
rainbow as well as the hues of Matter's beloved Steelers. The tee is
available through GEARGRINDER online at www.gear-grinder.com
A link to Matter's blog can be found at www.gear-grinder.com/ride , where
he will provide training and race day updates from The Netherlands.
