Feedback Sports racer Lisa Hudson used a steady approach to win the King of the Rockies Finale to the Winter Park mountain bike series, and in the process she took the season-long title.
Her win was her first of the season in the series, but her consistency through the summer and her breakout performance on the toughest course of the year made the title fitting.
Her time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, 46 seconds over the 25.8 mile “Tipperary Classic” course put her solidly ahead of WaltWorks/Fuentes Design racer Eszter Horanyi, who finished second in 2:13:38. Becca Blay (Sobe/Cannondale) took third in 2:16:09. YetiBeti racer Sonya Bugbee was fourth in 2:18:21 and Jennifer Tilley (Velo Bella/Kona) finished fifth in 2:20:27.
In the men’s race, Barkley Robinson (BMC/Orange Peel) led most of the way and held off Brady Kappius (Tokyo Joe’s) to take the King of the Rockies title. Robinson’s time was 1:48:30 over the hilly course with over 4,000 feet of climbing. Kappius finished second in 1:49:14, and J.J. Clark (Spike/Pro Cycling) took third in 1:52:04. Michael Mathers (Rocky Mountain Racing) narrowly missed the podium in fourth place (1:52:14), but it was enough to put him atop the series overall standings with five top four finishes over the series. Mike West (Maverick) rounded out the top five with a time of 1:53:12.
Over the seven race series, Lisa Hudson won the title with four podium finishes. Heather Baumgartner (Colorado Singletrack/Yeti/Adventure Cycling) was second, and Eszter Horanyi took third. Michael Mathers kept the momentum from his season opening win to take the men’s title, with Brady Kappius in second and Matt Simmons (Pro Cycling) in third.
