The valley point-to-point course is one of the local’s favorites in the Winter Park Mountain Bike Series, but no one liked it as much as Dellys Starr (Dales Pale Ale/Spot Brand) who blasted the competition with a winning time of 1:25:19 on the 19-mile track in the third race of the series. Her time was just two seconds off the fastest time set by a female rider on the course, but she had the fastest pace as organizers had to re-route the course. The new course went up and over a water crossing running too high from all the snow still high on the peaks, adding two-tenths of a mile to the traditional course. Lisa Hudson (Feedback Sports), last year’s point-to-point winner, settled for second in 1:31:25, and Lauren Constantini (Sycip/Schwalbe) was third in1:33:53.
The men’s pro racing was very tight, as it often is on this high-speed singletrack course. Doug Ryden (Pro Cycling Bike Shop) was the winner in 1:15:04. Michael Mathers (Rocky Mountain Racing) earned his third podium finish of the season at Winter Park, taking second in 1:15:13. Micah Joseph (bikeparts.com) was close behind in third 1:15:25. Matt Simmons (Pro Cycling) was also in reach of the leaders in fourth 1:15:58. James Morgan (Eriksen Cycles) took fifth in 1:17:14, nosing Bryan Mickiewicz (Rocky Mountain Racing) out of the top five by three tenths of a second.
