How much did Health Net-Maxxis rider Frank Pipp pitch in in Thursday's stage 4 team time trial?

How about 396 normalized watts and 362 average watts for 20:17?

That's the report from Pipp's coach, Frank Overton.

"Not bad for the fourth stage, when you’ve been off the front for 40 percent of the entire race," Overton said.

"As far as the power data goes, anaerobic power ruled the race," he said. "From the power data file, I counted seven, 20- to 26-second efforts between 506 and 638 watts. The final 30-second effort was at 639 watts or 170 percent of Frank’s threshold power. There was nothing steady about this time trial at all. "

On Monday Overton told VeloNews readers that the beauty of race data was that he can directly measure Pipp's fitness levels.

"Today we know that Frank’s 20-minute normalized threshold power has come up from 380 watts in January at training camp to 396 watts, four stages into the Tour of Georgia ... Add in the fatigue from the three previous stages, plus the fact that Frank was one of eight riders in this very dynamic TTT course, and one can only speculate what his apple-to-apple 20- minute full gas power would be.

"The art of race data interpretation during in 2008 will continue and will be extremely valuable information in 2009 and beyond.”
