'Cross Championships: Franzoi claims Italian crown; Kupfernagel wins German title

Enrico Franzoi won the Italian national cyclo-cross championship on Saturday.

The 22-year-old finished more than a minute ahead of runner-up Marco Bianco on the course in Rovato, near Brescia in northern Italy. Third-placed Derik Zampedri claimed the U-23 title.

In women's racing, Annabella Stropparo took the elite championship in 43:52, with Vania Rossi winning the U-23's in 47:40.

Kupfernagel wins German title
Hanka Kupfernagel won the women’s national cyclo-cross championship in Kleinmachnow, Germany, on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Kupfernagel beat runner-up Sabine Spitz, the bronze medalist in the women's mountain-bike race at the 2004 Olympic Games, who is racing her first season of cyclo-cross. Third place went to Nicole Kampeter.
