In its twelve years the Tour of Ohio has continued to go from strength to strength, with ever-growing crowds, and in 2007 the Tour of Ohio expands to be in conjunction with the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure with over 4000 participants in this family orientated event (sponsored and publicized by Bob Evans).
In 2008 the Tour of will be a five day event for elite amateurs with-out contract, (cat.1-3). In addition to the over-all there are categories that include the Sprinters Green Jersey, King of the Hills Jersey, White Jersey for the best Category Three athlete, and the Red Jersey for best collegiate athlete.
The stages will include an opening criterium in Mount Vernon, Ohio in conjunction with the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure.
The second stage will be the traditional seventy mile loop in the Hocking Hills Region. The Hocking Hills Region stage will feature no less than ten major hills including Jack Run, Cantwell Cliffs, Conkles Hollow, Chapel Ridge, and the famous Glick Hill, which was a part of the 1993 National Road Race Championships.
The third stage will take the race from Gambier, Ohio to Coshocton, Ohio and back to Gambier. For the first time the race will climb the 14% Hill Street climb out of Roscoe Village in Coshocton, and a hill top finish in Gambier.
The fourth stage will be a neighborhood criterium in Worthington, Ohio.
The final stage will be back in the traditional Tour of Ohio final stage village of Granville, Ohio. In 2008 the race will travel from Granville to the village of Utica and back to Granville for laps on a 5K loop through the hills of Denison University.
The 2008 Tour of Ohio expects to sell out like it has for ten out of its twelve years. This year’s addition is expecting a team from Hong Kong and three teams from Canada.
