Racing on a course that favored the riders who could combine cunning and strength, Eric Carter (Mongoose-Hyundai) and Katrina Miller (Jamis) took Saturday’s World Cup four-cross event in Mont-Ste-Anne, Quebec. Despite racing with a broken hand, Carter continued his winning ways, adding to his mountain-cross win from last weekend’s NORBA event in Mount Snow, Vermont, and his win from the World Cup stop in France.
“I was really struggling to figure out this course yesterday in practice, but I didn’t take any ibuprofen yesterday, and I did today,” said Carter, “That seemed to make a big difference.”
Carter held off a late-race charge from Cédric Gracia (Siemens-Cannondale) to add to his already-substantial overall lead in the World Cup standings.
After crashing out of contention in the Mount Snow mountain cross, Katrina Miller was keen to rediscover the form that has made her one of the favorites in any gravity event she enters. The diminutive Aussie, who won the first World Cup stop in Fort William, Scotland, took a lead right out of the gates, forcing the other three women to take chances and chase. With a solid lead in hand, Miller proved untouchable.
“This course allows for some passing, but fortunately no one passed me,” said Miller. “I tried to handle the difficult sections and keep my speed, which was the key.”
Miller’s win gives her a commanding lead in the World Cup standings over Mio Suemasa (Trek-Volkswagen).
