Ambitious, but limited

Thanks to its team victory at the 2001 Giro, this Italian team snaggeda direct ticket to the 2002 Tour. Team leader Ivan Gotti has his focuson the Giro d’Italia, while Swiss veteran Laurent Dufaux has been signed, with the Tour in mind — he placed fourth overall  in 1996 (with Festina)and 1999 (with Saeco). Alessio finished its 2001 season at the top of theDivision 2 rankings and knows what’s demanded on the roads of the grandtours. However, the Grande Boucle looks like a big bite for this ambitiousbut nevertheless limited team.TEAM WINS2001

Bruno Cenghialta, Manager:
"It’s an honor to be at the start of the Tour de France, and when youhave the chance to be there, you have to fight every day to go after thestage victories. This may seem pretentious, but you have to be ambitiousif you want to get anywhere. Laurent Dufaux has already proven, throughhis past performances, that he was capable of riding for the GC. This iswhat we will try to do, above all in the mountains. In the first section,we will aim for stage wins and the sprints, primarily with Ruslan Ivanovand Franco Pelizzotti. Three weeks is long and short at the same time, since every day you have to be in the right position, the right breakaway, and not let yourself get trapped and fall behind."
