Weylandt takes Eneco stage; Nuyens holds lead

Weylandt holds Hushovd off for the win

Belgian Wouter Weylandt (Quick Step-Innergetic) won the fourth stage of the Eneco Tour of Benelux on Sunday.

Weylandt crossed the line ahead of Norway's Thor Hushovd (Crédit Agricole) and Matthew Goss (CSC) after 182km of racing from Maldegem, Belgium, to Terneuzen, Netherlands.

Belgian Nick Nuyens (Cofidis) kept the leader's red jersey.

"It's revenge for the previous stages where I failed in the final meters," said Weylandt after his sixth success of the season. "I feared Thor Hushovd was coming back strong as we neared the line but I held on."

A breakaway containing Italian Roberto Longo (Lampre-Fondital), Russian Dmytro Grabowskyy (Quick Step-Innergetic), Frenchman Stephane Poulhies (Ag2r) and Belgian Nico Eeckhout (Chocolade Jacques) could not hold its lead as the sprinters’ teams of Weylandt and Nuyens bore down.

Nuyens admitted that he remained wary of the threat posed by British rider David Millar (Saunier Duval-Prodir) with three stages remaining.

"We had to go carefully because of the wind. But the team worked hard and I'm still in red. But I'm not dreaming - we still have a tricky stage and a time trial to go where I won't be the favorite," said Nuyens.
