KLM ’cross to preview 2007-08 nationals course
The second KLM Marketing Solutions UCI Cyclocross is slated Sunday at Wyandotte County Park in Kansas City.
The race, which will double as the Missouri State Cyclocross Championships, uses the same venue that will host the 2007-08 USA Cycling cyclo-cross national championships.
"KLM Marketing Solutions has been working with the Unified Government for two years to ensure that the venue has the capabilities to host nationals," said Wayne Burns, director of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Parks and Recreation Department.
Four-time ’cross champion Steve Tilford won last year’s inaugural race. And this year, reigning elite national champion Todd Wells (GT) will be racing in Kansas City.

Card, Steele win Bloomer Park ’cross
Jon Card (Cane Creek) and Rachel Steele (Saturn of Toledo) won the Rochester Bike Shop Velodrome at Bloomer Park Cyclocross on November 26.
The penultimate race in the 2006 Tailwind Cyclocross series took place at Bloomer Park in Rochester, Michigan.
The elite women’s race started with a twist. With the U.S. cyclo-cross national championships fast approaching, series leader Steele elected to start with the larger and faster Masters 35+ field, one minute after the elite women. The delay didn’t hinder her —she latched onto the barreling freight train, caught the women’s field within two laps and then cruised to her fourth win in the series.
In the elite men’s field the Cane Creek team once again dropped the hammer from the beginning with Rob Foshag pulling teammates Jon Card, Jer Walker and Jeff Weinert for nearly two laps. On the third lap Card and Weinert hammered away from the rest of the field.
Weinert experienced a severe cramp and had to dismount for several minutes, leaving Card, looking stylish in his trademark "Las Vega Elvis" shades, to take the win. Foshag crossed second followed by Mike Wissink (Specialized). And Weinert eventually remounted and chased back from 10th to finish fourth.
