Cane Creek trio sweeps Munson Park
The Cane Creek trio of Rob Foshag, Jon Card and Jeff Weinart went 1-2-3 at the Jack’s Bicycle & Fitness Munson Park Cyclocross November 12 in Monroe, Michigan.

Hometown favorite Foshag took the hole-shot, quickly followed by teammates Card and Weinert, and the Cane Creek trio began a team time trial, trading pulls as the remnants of the field fought for their wheels. A lap and a half later, the three were on their own.

At the finish, their lead secure, Rob Foshag got the go-ahead to take the win in front of his family, friends and neighbors. Best of the rest was Tucker Olander of the Hot Tubes development team, who crossed along at 1:18 back.

In the women’s race, Rachael Steele (Saturn of Toledo-Shell) tok her third win in a row in the Tailwind Cyclocross series. She now leads the overall series with two events remaining.

The Michigan cyclocross season culminates with the state championships on December 3. For more information, see www.tailwind.net.

Prenzlow, Popovic rule Quad Knopf
Brent Prenzlow (Celo Pacific-Salsa) and Carolyn Popovic (Figueroa Farms-Redline Racing) took top honors November 11-12 at the Quad Knopf Cross Weekend in Bakersfield, California.

Light winds, cool weather and a sprinkling of rain on Saturday greeted ’crossers at Hart Memorial Park for rounds five and six of the Southern California Cross Prestige Series.

Popovic spent both days battling junior phenom Coryn Rivera (Major Motion). On Saturday it was Popovic trading the lead with Rivera before finally establishing a lead at midrace and motoring in for the win. On Sunday, the two gapped the field early before Popovic finally broke Rivera, leaving teammates Many Eakins and Dorothy Wong to reel her in for second and third, respectively.

In men’s racing, Prenzlow showed impressive form. On both days he simply bided his time for a lap or two, then powered away for the wins.

On Saturday Prenzlow, Mark Noble (Cal Raisins) and Chance Noble (Cal Giant-Specialized) got away from the group on lap three. Prenzlow had a gap on the final lap, and with 500 meters to go it looked close ,but Prenzlow took the win with Chance Nobel second and Mark third. On Sunday, the group stayed together for a few laps until Prenzlow surged ahead with the Nobles. Once again Prenzlow took the win, but this time Mark Noble took second and Chance third.

The SoCal Prestige Series continues November 26 with the Turkey Trot Cross in Glendale. For more information, see www.verudugocycling.com. Prestige Series news can be found at www.SoCalCross.org.

Verge MAC series tackles cancer fight
This weekend’s Verge MAC Series races near New Hope, Pennsylvania, are not listed on the UCI international calendar, but they are important nonetheless. Saturday’s Guys Racing Club-Colonial Subaru VW Cyclocross and Sunday’s Evo-Cross in Memory of Todd Ebersole are part of the ongoing fight against cancer.

A portion of the proceeds from Saturday’s race will benefit Philadelphia’s Fox Chase Cancer Center. Sunday’s Evo-Cross will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).

There’s a personal connection here. After the disease killed promoter Tammy Ebersole’s brother Todd, the family learned that proportionally less money is given to pancreatic-cancer research than other, more well-known, forms of the disease.

"It is such a brutal form of the disease," says Ebersole. "We hope that donating money helps, but we also hope that at least one person walks away from the race with an increased awareness of PanCAN and the fact that research funding on this particular form of cancer is not up to par with others."

For information, see www.BikeReg.com and click on the "Verge MAC" icon. For more in PanCAN, see www.pancan.org.

Wisconsin championships on deck
The 2006 Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championships will be held November 19 at the Angell Park Motor Speedway in Sun Prairie.

Hosted by the Brazen Dropouts Cycling Club and its sponsors, the championships serve as the finale to the eight-race Wisconsin Cycling Association-Planet Bike Cyclocross Race Series.

First used in 2003, this venue offers up a real challenge, providing racers and spectators with everything they love in a ’cross race. New challenges include a stair climb, more off-camber sections and fast, banked corners.
