MABRAcross finale a double-header
The BikeReg.com MABRAcross Series concludes this weekend with a double-header: Club Squadra Coppi’s Tacchino Ciclocross on Saturday in Leesburg, Virginia, and the Race Pace Cyclocross on Sunday in Sykesville, Maryland.
Traditionally run near Thanksgiving, Saturday’s Tacchino (that’s Italian for "turkey") Cyclocross gets a new location in Leesburg’s Ida Lee Park.
"The park staff are very supportive of our efforts, and I get the feeling when dealing with them and the town management that they would like to see this event become even more closely tied with the town," said lead promoter Judd Milne.
Sunday’s finale will be held at Sykesville’s Freedom Park, known for its fast, sweeping turns and asphalt corridors between baseball and soccer fields.
Pre-registration for both events closes Thursday morning. For details, directions and pre-registration see www.BikeReg.com and click on the "MABRA Cyclocross" icon.
Chi’ series shifts to St. Charles
Round two of the Chicago Cyclocross Racing series comes up Saturday with the Campton Cross in St. Charles, Illinois.
The course will include a mix of technical grassy sections with a long gravel section for recovery followed by an off-camber turn or two. A cement paved climb leads into a short technical grassy section winding around a baseball field into a short, two-barrier climb. There will also be a super-fast three-barrier run. The start/finish will be on a flat, fast section.
The race is sponsored by Training Bible Coaching. Lake Cycling has agreed to sponsor the junior race with a shoe gift certificate for the series winner and podium caps to race winners.
Another recent sponsor to the series is Adidas, which is donating shoe gift certificate for the overall point leaders in the following categories: Masters 35+, Masters 45+, Men Pro 1/2, Men Category IV and Women Category IV.
The winner of each category will receive a winner’s jersey presented by Pactimo.

Cow Town series heads to KC
The Cow Town Cyclocross Series moves to E.H. Young Riverfront Park along the Missouri River for a double-header this weekend.
The signature event of the series, the two-day Riverside Cyclocross Festival, will feature a classic ’cross course, free food and drinks, a beginners ’cross clinic, custom awards, cow bells and more than $2000 in cash, awards, primes and prizes.
The 1.6-mile course designed by event director Chris Locke features a barrier-free course, but has several natural features that "may" require dismounting.
"I am an old-school cross racer and like to design courses that test a rider’s technical ability as well as fitness and race savvy," said Locke.
Cummings, Williams take Georgia race
KHS-Cycleyouth teammates Andy Johnson and Michael Cummings double-teamed series leader Nathan Race (Reality Bikes) on October 29 to bring Cummings his second win of the year in the Georgia Cross Series at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder.
The race was held on a brutally tough course laid out by the Gwinnett Touring Club. The first half was twisty and fast, and the back half was torturous with a long beach run, a 100-yard climb, a set of barriers at the base of the dirt climb, and a gradual road climb to the finish line.
In women’s racing, Samantha Williams (Alan Factory Team) came back strong from the UCI race in Maryland to narrow the gap on series leader Kim Foland (Travel Girl).
