Coryn Rivera (UnitedHealthcare) won the first stage of the Tour Feminino de San Luis on Sunday, taking a three-second lead in the six-day women’s stage race in Argentina.
Rivera outkicked the rest in a bunch sprint finish, crossing the line ahead of Martha Tagliaferro (Ale Cipollini) and Kelly Markus (Lares-Waow Deals). It was the first win of the season for Rivera and her UHC team.
“The road season is starting earlier than usual for me this year, but I am thrilled and ready to get the season kicked off with the girls at San Luis,” Rivera said at the start of stage 2 on Monday. “Half the team here has raced San Luis before and the other half are new to the race, including myself. We have some new additions to the team here with Iris [Slappendel], Annie [Ewart], and Diana [Penuala]. We have all gotten along very well through the long travels and the days leading up to the race, so I’m sure the chemistry off the bike will translate to team chemistry on the bike once racing begins.”
