Marianne Vos the favorite at RideLondon Grand Prix

The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix will host a strong field of 100 riders for the women’s criterium in central London Saturday, including reigning world champion Marianne Vos (Rabo-Liv).

“I’m really excited to be racing at the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix again — having such a great field to compete against will be amazing,” said defending champion Laura Trott (Wiggle-Honda). “It means that this race can only get bigger.

“I peaked for the Commonwealth Games so I’m not really in the best shape to be Wiggle Honda’s team leader right now; I think we’ll probably ride for Giorgia Bronzini [2011 world road race champion] instead.”

The Briton’s teammate, Bronzini, will be a rider to watch. The Italian was second behind Vos in the Sparkassen Giro.

At the London Olympics, it was Vos who came out on top, besting Lizzie Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) on the London Mall, where they will race Saturday.

Few would bet against a repeat victory for the Dutchwoman who has won the Giro Rosa and La Course by Le Tour de France this year.

Armitstead is also in good form, winning gold in the Commonwealth Games road race last weekend.

Other UK notables include Scotland’s Katie Archibald (Pearl Izumi), who took bronze in the Commonwealth Games points race, Eileen Roe (Starley Primal), who has been the dominant force on the UK criterium scene, and 2013 British circuit race champion Hannah Barnes (UnitedHealthcare).
