The first of five events in the Gran Fondo Italia series will visit Aspen and Snowmass, Colo. on August 10. Riders will choose from two routes through the Roaring Fork Valley — the shorter option is 45 miles, climbing approximately 3,000 feet in total. The full-distance course is 95mi, and it will climb about 7,000 feet, up to over 9,700 feet above sea level.
Both distances — and all genders and categories — will contest a “Gran Premio della Montagna” hill climb challenge to the finish, which should prove to be a difficult test, as the course won’t dip much lower than 7,890 feet in altitude. The final two miles on Brush Creek Road, leading to Snowmass Village, will be timed for this challenge.
Before the final climb, riders will enjoy many of the area’s well-loved roads and routes, including Owl Creek, Castle Creek, McLain Flats, and Frying Pan.
Registration is now open and limited to 499 riders. All participants will have the chance to win a Colnago C60 in a drawing at the event.
