Durango police request FBI help in Iron Horse fraud probe — Durango Herald

The Durango Police Department has requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in its investigation of credit card fraud targeting a number of registrants at the 2012 Iron Horse Bicycle Classic.

“Organizers are unsure how widespread the problem is and whether all the credit cards used to register were compromised,” writes the Herald’s Shane Benjamin. “Most of the fraudulent activity appears to have occurred during the first week of February, but some people have reported fraudulent charges up to three weeks ago, [event director Gaige] Sippy said. Fraudulent charges have ranged from $200 to $1,400, he said.”

Lance Armstrong lied to Texas Monthly’s Michael Hall in a 2001 interview when Hall asked about doping. Two weeks after the Texan’s Oprah confession, Hall spends some time with the former world champion and details his fall from grace in his hometown of Austin, Texas.

“There are days I think, ‘I shouldn’t have done the interview.’ But then I see my kids, see the way they’re acting, the way they’re interacting,” said Armstrong. “I see the way my son plays basketball, the way he hustles, the way he’s focused. I see a different kid.”

Armstrong says he looks at Bill Clinton as a role model for forging a comeback in the court of public opinion.

“Lance believes his road back will come with good works and the passage of time,” writes Hall. “’Ultimately,’ he told me, ‘people forgive and forget and remember the good stuff you did.’ He looks to Bill Clinton as his model. ‘Is it hard to do?’ he asked. ‘Yeah. But Clinton did it—he loves to work, he loves people, he loves to hustle. He’s a hero of mine. He’s a tough guy, he’s smart, surrounded himself with good people. And ten years later, he’s president of the world. It can be done.’”
