DIEGEM, Belgium (VN) — Mathieu van der Poel (Enertherm-BKCP) and Logan Owen (Redline) finished one-two on Sunday at Diegem.
The American briefly led Van Der Poel in the early going, but the world champion escaped, laying down an attack that proved too much for the U.S. 17-18 champ, who found himself in a chase with Telenet-Fidea teammates Nicolas Cleppé and Quinten Hermans.
Cleppé faded on the final lap, while van der Poel went on to take his 20th victory of the season. Behind, Owen escaped Hermans to take the runner-up spot, blowing a kiss to the crowd as he sailed across the line.
Hermans rounded out the podium in third.
Van der Poel leads the Superprestige series with 90 points. Hermans sits second with 83 while Ben Boets is third with 66. Logal is tied with Alexander Ameel for 13th with 14 points apiece.
