Schurter tops World Cup podium on 650b

Nino Schurter of Scott-Swisspower sealed the 2012 World Cup title with a win at the Val d’Isere World Cup after an exceptionally strong season. Schurter has been racing 650b wheels on his Scott 27.5″ Scale this season.

After skipping the Windham World Cup, Schurter’s fourth season win secured him the World Cup overall title, making him the clear favorite for the Olympic gold medal.

With the Olympic cross country race the next major goal for the selected World Cup racers, Schurter is confident that he can cope with the pressure of the Olympics. “I look for myself only. Try to be at my best. I don’t care so much about the other riders’ performance.

“Sure the pressure is on now, but usually I can deal with it quite well. We will see what is going to happen. One thing is for sure. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Only his Scott teammate Florian Vogel and Italian National Champion Marco Fontana (Cannondale Factory Racing) approached Schurter in Val d’Isere, chasing him down mid-race.

Trek World Racing’s Lukas Flückiger came in second and Fontana third.

Julien Absalon did not finish the race after battling with mechanicals due to the mud.
