The 2012 edition of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge will cover some familiar ground and take in some new territory, organizers announced on Thursday.

The August 20-26 race through Colorado will add cycling hotspots Boulder and Durango to the menu, along with Montrose and Telluride, as it winds its way from Durango to Denver.

“By incorporating iconic cycling cities like Boulder and Durango in our second-year race we will further build the virtual postcard for the state of Colorado that we established in our inaugural year,” said CEO Shawn Hunter.

The 2011 edition, won by Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack), kicked off with a prologue in Colorado Springs. But the 2012 USAPCC will begin with a road stage, from Durango to Telluride. The seven-stage race will finish, as did its predecessor, in Denver, but with an individual time trial rather than a road stage.

Further details will be released later.
