The 2012 Whiskey Off-Road Mountain Bike Event will offer a $30,000 cash purse, up from $20,000 just a year ago.

In its ninth season and second hosting a pro category cash prize, Epic Rides anticipates 1,750 riders (1,600 amateurs/150 professionals) to participate in three solid days of racing, riding, and celebrating all things mountain biking.

“After a successful first year hosting a pro category, we are excited to raise the bar once again,” said Todd Sadow, president of Epic Rides.

The $30,000 cash purse is among the biggest single day pro race prizes in mountain biking. The $30,000 purse will be split in half between the top ten male and female competitors for a unique equal payout opportunity.

2011 winners Chris Sheppard (male) of Team Rocky Mountain and Pua Mata (female) of Team Sho-Air are confirmed to return and defend their title in 2012.

“The ‘Whiskey’ should be the template for every weekend mountain bike race in North America. Community, road closures, gnarly trail, flowy trail, rock, sand, music and views,” says Chris Sheppard.

The Whiskey Off-Road course presents participants with an authentic mountain bike experience including an abundance of quality technical single-track, combined with very legitimate climbing and descending on a variety of terrains.

With all event activities based in a centralized downtown location only 1.5 hours north of Phoenix, Arizona, the events accessibility and scope of accommodations are sure to entertain the anticipated 6,000-plus attendees comfortably.

The Whiskey Off-Road Mountain Bike Event is organized by Tucson, Arizona-based Epic Rides, founded in 2000.

Registration for professional riders opens November 1, 2011 and amateur registration opens January 1, 2012.

The ‘Whiskey’ will be held April 27-29, 2012.
