Dual Slalom Replaces 4X at Gravity Nationals

Dual slalom racing will return as a part of the 2011 and 2012 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Gravity National Championships.

This year is the first time gravity events and the cross-country and Super D will be held separately. The 2011 gravity nationals are scheduled for Sept. 23-25 in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. Due to both rider feedback, the head-to-head competition will replace the four-cross event at the national championships this fall, according to Andrea Smith of USA Cycling.

The XC nationals are set for July 15-17 in Sun Valley, Idaho.

For this year’s gravity nationals, 2007 dual slalom national champion Christopher Herndon is building the course at Beech Mountain with the goal of increasing participation in the gravity event. An event schedule will be posted soon, according to USA Cycling. Categories and classes will remain the same for Dual Slalom:

Dual Slalom National Championship Classes

Male: Pro, Category 1: 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40+, Junior: 14 & under

Female: Pro, Category 1/2/3 –all ages
