The Jamis-Sutter Home team, known in the past for its sprinters, is bringing a balanced team to the Amgen Tour of California next week. With the recent addition of time trial specialist Tom Zirbel, the squad has a mix of climbers, strongmen and sprinters.
“We are very excited to be back at the Amgen Tour of California,” said sports directors Sebastian Alexandre. “Our squad has the power, speed, and teamwork to deliver good performances on this demanding course.”
NRC champion Luis Amaran has the team’s best shot a stage win or a top overall placing. Climber Tyler Wren also has an eye on a top GC placing.
Brothers Alejandro and Anibal Borrajo are the team’s top sprinters. And Zirbel cannot only look to top individual result in the time trial, but also help provided the horsepower to help the team create opportunities or protect a lead.
“We’ve now got the squad that can drive the train over hundreds of miles,” Alexandre said.
