UPDATED: New name for Quiznos race

USA Pro Cycling Challenge logoDENVER, Colorado (VN) – In a reshuffle following the arrival of co-chairman Shawn Hunter to the management team of the Quiznos Pro Challenge in January, the race will assume a new name going forward. The inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge will also air on NBC and Versus networks in August as part of a multimedia distribution package. The final stage, which finishes at the Colorado State Capitol, will air live on NBC.

Quiznos Pro Challenge officials will confirm the news in a press conference in the capitol building at 9:30 a.m. MT Tuesday morning.

The UCI 2.HC U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge will take place August 22-28, 2011. ProTeams confirmed to attend include RadioShack, Liquigas-Cannondale, HTC-Highroad, Garmin-Cervélo, BMC Racing and Leopard-Trek. Pro Continental squads UnitedHealthcare, Team Type 1-Sanofi Aventis, Spidertech-C10 and Skil-Shimano will also be in Colorado Springs for the kickoff.

NBC Sport Group will present 25 hours of coverage over the seven-day event. The Versus network will carry 3.5 hours of daily coverage throughout the week.

“There is no stronger television partner than the NBC Sports Group to present the USA Pro Cycling Challenge,” said Hunter. “With the NBC Sports Group’s extensive, 25 hours of live coverage, millions of fans will be able to follow their favorite cyclists as they compete in the most demanding professional bike race ever held in America.”

Rick Schaden, owner and co-chairman of the race, said that despite the name change, Quiznos will continue with its original backing for the event.

“As the race continues to build momentum with teams and sponsors from across the globe, and as we significantly increase media coverage nationally and internationally, our new logo will brand the event in a way that better communicates the scale of the event and its audience,” said Schaden. “Our goal is to help raise the profile of professional cycling in the United States by hosting an epic race in Colorado that draws the top cyclists in the world and mirrors the excitement of the Tour de France.”

Additional supporting sponsors for the first-year race include IconLasik, Cannondale, Smashburger, Pearl Izumi, Sheets Energy Strips and the Colorado Tourism Office.
