While many of us in North America are dreaming of riding, today will see the start of the Transandes Challenge in South America.
Some 130 mountain bikers from 18 different countries will take on six days and 450km in Patagonian Argentina and Chile in the Andes Mountain Range.
The race, which moves through the Huilo Huilo Reserve, will finish on Saturday, Jan. 29. Some of the riders include notables names like Mary McConneloug and Michael Broderick, mainstays on the U.S. and World Cup cross-country scene. The couple won the mixed duo division in 2010.
Also set to race is Canadian Andreas Hestler, an former Olympian and two-time winner of the Transrockies Challenge in Canada. Two European cross-country powers, Eva Lechner of Italy and Nathalie Schneitter of Switzerland, will also be racing.
