Giana Roberge takes director’s job at Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12

Following the decision by director Kristen Armstrong to return to competition, the Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12 team announced Wednesday that it has hired former Saturn director Giana Roberge to fill that role.

Armstrong announced her decision to return to the peloton to defend her Olympic time trial title in 2012 and to regain the world championship in the same discipline.

Roberge played an instrumental role in the team’s establishment, when it first raced under the title of the PROMAN Hit Squad.

“I first worked with Giana five years ago,” said general manager Nicola Cranmer. “She constantly impressed me with her professionalism, knowledge and strong advocacy for women’s cycling. She was not only a great mentor for the riders, but for me as well. She was more than willing to share her experience from her time with the fabled Saturn program.

“ I learned so much in regard to program presentation and management from my time working with her.”

A former member of the successful Saturn women’s team, Roberge moved into the role as team director following her retirement from racing. She later served as the director of the Quark team.

Under Roberge’s direction, the Saturn women’s team won the UCI Team Title and the Women’s World Cup Title two consecutive years, as well as the Redlands Classic, the Liberty Classic, the HP Women’s Challenge, Tour de L’Aude, and the Holland Ladies’ Tour.

“It is an honor to work with the roster of riders and sponsors that Nicola and Kristin have assembled,” said Roberge. ” I am very excited to return to the director’s roll with such a talented, eager and promising group of women.”

The team includes 17-year-old rising star Ruth Winder and Durango-based talent, Kristin McGrath, who came back to win Green Mountain Stage race after being unable able to compete much of 2010 due to an injury. Roberge is expected to begin working with the team this week.
