Switzerland’s Martin Elmiger (AG2R) won the 56th edition of the Four Days of Dunkirk on Sunday.

Benoît Vaugrenard (Française des Jeux) took the final stage, a 179.5km leg final between Ardres and Dunkirk, ahead of Nicolay Trussov (Katusha) and Jens Mouris (Vacansoleil).

But it was the 32-year-old Elmiger who claimed a narrow overall victory from Caisse d’Epargne teammates Rui Faria Da Costa (Caisse d’Epargne) and Jose Rojas (Caisse d’Epargne), who finished four and 17 seconds back, respectively, on general classification.

A 14-man break took off just 6km into the finale, containing Mickael Delage (Omega Pharma-Lotto), Stephane Auge (Cofidis), Jimmy Engoulvent (Saur-Sojasun), Vaugrenard and Rojas.

Vaugrenard escaped his mates to win by two seconds over Trussov and four over Mouris. Elmiger, meanwhile, finished with the bunch to retain his overall lead.

Rojas scored nine bonus seconds in the final circuit to leapfrog over Cédric Pineau (Roubaix Lille Metropole) into third place in the overall.
