Iceman Cometh this Weekend

Along with some 2,000 riders slated to start the Iceman Cometh race Nov. 7 in Traverse City, Michigan is a stacked pro field.

Thirty-nine pro women will toe the line thinking about what it is going to take to beat Amanda Carey (Kenda) and claim the Iceman Championship. Carey will be thinking about when and where the attacks are going to come as well as from who. She’s going to have to keep track of five time champion Kelli Emmett (Giant), Heather Irmiger (Subaru-Gary Fisher), Alison Dunlap (Luna) and Jenna Rhinehart (Specialized) to name a few.

Having already posted victories at Ore to Shore and Chequamegon, Rhinehart promises to be a wildcard in the mix as she’ll be gunning for the unofficial “Triple Crown” of the Midwest.

Likewise, Jeremiah Bishop (Cannondale) will be scanning the field throughout the race keeping tabs on his adversaries. Three other Iceman Champions will be on his short list of wheels to watch as all three have previously demonstrated they have the knowledge of how to win the 27-mile, point-to-point race.

Michael Simonson (Fisher 29er Crew), Tristan Schouten (Planet Bike) and Brian Matter (Gear Grinder) are all flying this year. Add some big-gun powder like Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru – Gary Fisher), Todd Wells (Specailized), Carl Decker (Giant), and the ever present Schultz brothers, Sam and Andy, and some explosive racing is in store for Northern Michigan.

Brian Matter joins Bishop as a marked man since Matter was also victorious at Ore to Shore and Chequamegon.
