Legalizing Singletrack On Marin’s Historic Mt. Tam Proposed

In an ironic twist of history and government, California State Parks have proposed opening a short but sweet piece of singletrack on Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County. Bill’s Trail is a four-mile loop that is proposed to be open on alternating days of the week. The International Mountain Biking Association is throwing its political weight behind the effort, as are many regional bike organizations, and hopes for not only a community, but a nationwide effort to support this proposal. Mt. Tam is one of the birthplaces of mountain biking as we know it today, and its trails gave rise to many of the industry’s leading pioneers and designers.

“I’m urging mountain bikers across the country to send comments in support of this project,” says IMBA Executive Director Mike Van Abel. “It’s hard to imagine a more important location than Marin, where mountain bikers have worked incredibly hard to regain access to the very trails that helped bring our sport into the world.”
